Volunteer for Dancin' on the Avenue 2011

This year will be Dancin' on the Avenue's 16th year, and the summertime repeat of musical fun along the Avenue for around 35,000 residents and guests. Along with the music, attendees will enjoy a variety of good food and beverages being served along the Avenue.

Dancin' on the Avenue would not be possible without the tremendous support we get every year from all the volunteers that staff the event for us. Each year Dancin’ on the Avenue is staff by over 200 volunteers – most of them from businesses serving the Willow Glen and San Jose area.

The Willow Glen Business Association needs your help making the 2011 Dancin’ on the Avenue festival a successful event! This is a busy time of year and we appreciate your time and willingness to do volunteer service to the community. Following are volunteer opportunities which are still available.

• Host Positions (TOTAL: 4 people) — Need assertive types – total of 4 – to manage a sector of festival to include a ticket booth, a security table, a beverage concession (includes 2 beer, 1 wine and 1 soda booths). Main duties are to assist with ticket and beverage lines so that street is not blocked; assure that ticket purchasers are getting wrist bands needed for alcohol beverages, report volunteer staffing issues to volunteer coordinator – and have fun! Equipment will be issued (vests, radios, etc.) Perfect position for retired police officers!
• Beverage Booths Back-up — we need volunteers to be ready to help serve in any of our soda/water, wine or beer booths if they are understaffed anytime during the festival. Volunteers serving beer or wine must be 21 years of age or older.
• Survey (TOTAL: 8 people) — we need volunteers to help us collect festival attendees’ ZIP CODES at the main entrances (Willow & Minnesota).
  There are two shifts (4 people per shift): 5-6PM, and 7-8PM.
• Kid’s Court Area (TOTAL: 2 people) — Get there at 2PM
  Mark booth spaces with chalk
  Distribute equipment to booths
  Guide participants to their booth space
• Photographer — We need one or two volunteers who can capture the festival’s best images.

The following positions are needed for the Community Dance Stage located on Brace Street. We need two volunteers for each position to cover one of two shifts – 3:30pm to 6:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:30pm. This will be an extremely fun area – dance acts from very cute, ethnic, hip hop to exotic. Don’t miss this chance.

• Emcee — will announce approximately 35 dance acts. Scripts will be provided.
• Stage Manager — ensure that acts are ready to perform and queue them for performance
• Back Stage Manager — keep performers aware of the schedule, obtain their music and get it to the Music Coordinator
• Music Coordinator — loads CDs and queues music.
